After working in different Greenpeace offices around the world including as Deputy Campaign Director in Greenpeace UK and Greenpeace India and Programme Director in Greenpeace Australia Pacific, I went freelance in September 2018.
I've recently stood in for a year as Interim Director of Campaigning Impact at Friends of the Earth, helping them through a period of change.
I’ve led teams and departments to campaign wins such as: stopping a shipping channel being dug through the Great Barrier Reef and stopping a new generation of coal fired power stations being built in the UK.
In the last 4 years I’ve been focusing on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategies. I currently advise Kent Union on their Equality work and I've delivered training for ZSL staff on 'Dignity and Respect in the workplace'.
Designing Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategies
A growing body of research suggests that diverse organisations perform better. Teams of mixed gender, ethnicity, physical ability, age and sexual orientation are more representative of the people we are trying to reach. They offer a variety of viewpoints and a wider range of experience which improves decision making and problem solving. But to realise this uptick in performance, organisations also need to have a culture that is inclusive of people with diverse characteristics.
Diversity of thinking is of particular importance in fast changing environments and is seen by some as a ‘disruptive force to break through the status quo’.
I can support your organisation to become more diverse and inclusive by analysing your strengths and weaknesses and suggesting strategies for improvement that suit the kind of organisation that you are. I can:
Conduct Equality Audits
Write bespoke Diversity and Inclusion strategies
Advise on culture changes to support your success
Deliver training on equality law including bullying and harassment at work
Helping Campaigning organisations to have more impact
I have over 25 years of campaigning experience and I can mentor organisations or individuals to make sure that your campaigns have maximum impact. I have:
Led campaigns and Campaign Departments to achieve significant campaign and policy wins
Performed interim roles to cover absence
Led strategic planning processes for organisations and coalitions
Led departments through periods of change including managing recruitment and staff role changes
Coached and mentored staff in a variety of roles
Designed and led project evaluation processes
Developed initiatives to improve workplace culture
Managed large projects involving multilple partners
